Redhat Enterprise Linux 5 Released

Redhat Enterprise Linux 5 or RHEL 5 is due to be released today. PC world has an article discussing the newest offering from Redhat. Also ZD Net has this article speculating over whether RHEL 5 will support virtualizaiton out of the box. Also ArsTechnica has an article on the release of RHEL 5. While I don’t use RHEL personally or at work, my home server is CentOS 4.4 which is based on RHEL.

Problem Solved

I’ve gotten my blog back to 100%. The problem was with an incorrect verison of php. So I complied the latest verison in the 4.x branch and that seems to have fixed the problems. It was a battle figuring out what was happening but I’ve won.

I’m having trouble

My new server seems to be acting up a little bit. For some reason one small area of my blog isn’t accessible any more as when you try to access it apache dies. I’ve been searching google for a day and a half now with now luck. The error could be due possibly to a misbehaving plugin not quite sure yet. As of right now I don’t have access to actually work on the server, I’ve got a couple things I want to try though.

Welcome to the new year

I know I haven’t updated in awhile but I’ve been busy with work and at home I’ve been finishing up my new CentOS server. I finished moving the mail over along with ASSP, I’ve also finished with the DNS server and DHCP (this was a pain getting dynamic dns updates to work). Pretty soon I will be retiring my old Win2k server, I’ve found a solution for WSUS, run a virtual machine with Win2k and WSUS running for my automatic updates. I’m going to do away with active directory completely.

If you might have noticed I’ve updated my blog software to Wordpress. So far I really like the ability to add new functionality without having to hack into the php code. The admin interface is also alot more intuitive.
